This year, Kaunas delights with a 20-meter-high green fir tree adorned with unusual materials – plastic straws. The Kaunas green fir tree stands out without traditional toys. It embraces the naturalness of nature and radiates a lot of brightness. Being close to the tree, we can sense the magical forest scent, feel the sparkle of winter magic, and hear the crystalline sounds of winter. The branches of the temporary capital’s Christmas tree are made from disposable transparent cocktail straws. In total, 2.5 million of them were used. The tree stands proudly in the centre of the Rotušės Square, dressed in fur and shimmering crystals. The lower part of the tree’s branches transforms into fairy-tale characters that organically blend into the overall decoration composition. They are like toys and animals made of snow. Various organizations, communities, and groups of people have woven them into snow pillows, turning it into a unifying action that involves the whole society. If this impression were to be described in a few words, they would be – a rich, radiant, melodic, and enchanting Queen Fir Tree, hiding a winter fairy tale under her skirt.
